The author has had significant experience running hands-on workshops on disruptive innovation. He has found, contrary to the general beliefs of CEOs that most organizations have enough creative people already working with them and the senior leaders need not look outside for innovative ideas. The problem, in most cases lies with the organization itself, or more specifically, its systems which constrain the collective creativity of workers in subtle ways. Earlier we did not have enough insight into the process of innovation, but in the past few decades many path breaking researches have been conducted in the field which have yielded valuable insights that can help any organization fuel the latent creativity of its workforce. The author suggests beginning with an innovation strategy, allocating resources for the strategy, making the organization safe for innovative ideas and spirit, providing incentives for innovation and getting senior leaders to play active roles in the effort.
